| The European Online Journalism Awards
(EOJA) is an annual awards programme to recognise and reward excellence in online
journalism. It was conceived by journalists for journalists. The
awards focus on online journalism, that is, the practice of telling good stories using
digital tools and techniques in an online medium.
The fundamentals of journalism – careful research, balanced,
fair reporting, transparent sourcing, clear presentation – do not disappear in
cyberspace. In fact, they are even more important given the pervasive power and
consequences of the instant, global dissemination of news engendered by the Internet.
The online journalist has the opportunity to simultaneously
deploy digital tools – audio, video, graphic – and Web techniques –
hyperlinking, interactivity – to broaden and enrich his/her storytelling. This
marriage of traditional journalistic values and new media tools/techniques is the defining
characteristic of online journalism. These awards will contribute to the creation and
dissemination of models of excellence and best practice in this new specialism.

The seminar is structured as four themed tracks:

Newsroom.
- Establishing a City-based Online News Service.
There are two lectures, one workshop and a roundtable in each track.
